The 44-year-old Desperate Housewives actress and the singer, 55, announced their plans to wed in March 2006 after reconciling almost a decade after they first parted ways.

In a statement, the couple's spokeswoman says: "Nicollette Sheridan and Michael Bolton have amicably ended their engagement. They appreciate your respect for their privacy in this matter."

The couple first started dating in 1992 and were together for fives years.

The pair then rekindled their romance in 2005, following Nicollette's split from fiance Niklas Soderblom.

In 2006, Michael said: "Nicollette and I are very serious about each other. I am very committed. It is a very special time in my life. I have a good feeling about the future."
